In this video I’m breaking down my experience with the Eufy security cameras I own and have used, and the Blink security cameras I’ve also used and owned.
This is not sponsored. I purchased all of these with my own money, and I’m spending my own time on it.
Blink first (Amazon gear)
I’m starting with Blink because Blink is an Amazon product. If you already own Amazon gear like Echo Dots, they should pair with the Blink cameras. That’s a cool ecosystem feature.
After living with Blink, I thought the response time was solid. Sensitivity was nice. It had a strong cool-down that I grew to appreciate.
Blink Outdoor 4 and the rest of the Blink lineup
Out of the Blink lineup I tested, my favorite battery cam is the Blink Outdoor 4. It’s their newest battery-operated outdoor camera, and the battery is supposed to last up to two years on a set of AA batteries.
I also tested the Blink doorbell, the Blink Minis, and the Blink Mini pan and tilt. The Mini and the Mini pan and tilt are the same camera — one just adds the pan and tilt accessory. I wouldn’t spend the extra money on pan and tilt unless you’re a new parent, you’ve got pets, or you’ve got little ones and you want to rotate the camera from your phone while it’s on Wi-Fi. Video, audio, and night vision are the same either way.
Everything I’m talking about here is on the 2K spectrum. If you want my 2K vs 4K thoughts, that’s a different video.
The Blink subscription gripe
My real gripe with Blink is the subscription. To use all the Blink app features — reviewing your clips, the full app experience — you need a paid plan after the first trial window (about 15 to 30 days when you first buy). The features are convenient and fairly affordable. I just don’t like paying a subscription, so that’s a big mark against Blink for me.
Blink’s still popular for a reason. Easy to set up. Easy to use. The app is straightforward. People buy them by the thousands on Amazon every month.
Why Eufy wins for me
Now Eufy. Between Eufy and Blink, Eufy wins for me.
I’m stretching for a gripe on my solar Eufy cam: it’s power hungry. The battery drains pretty quickly if there’s no sun, and it typically wants about four hours of sunlight. Beyond that, the camera itself works fantastic.
The big win is simple. Good quality, and I don’t have to pay a monthly subscription. That won me over as an Eufy customer. I don’t live in a city, so some of the city-side Eufy headaches aren’t my daily problem — Eufy isn’t perfect — but I get a high quality image, very good sound, and solid night vision.
My favorite Eufy I own right now is the one with the spotlight. If you’re putting a cam outdoors and you want real detail when someone walks by, get a spotlight cam. It works as a deterrent, and you get way more detail in the photo and video.
So between Blink and Eufy, Eufy is the big winner for me. If you’re already deep in Amazon products, look harder at Blink.
Doorbell, outdoor, and indoor picks
Quick ranking the way I said it:
- Doorbell: Eufy over Blink. Wider view, and it comes with a tilt / angle tray for angled driveways or walkways so I’m not buying a separate accessory.
- Outdoor battery cam: Eufy outdoor spotlight Cam, mainly because Blink’s full features sit behind a monthly plan. If the subscription weren’t a thing, I’d give a slight nod to the Outdoor 4.
- Indoor / kids / pets: Blink Minis win. Pair a Mini with your Blink doorbell and a ring can notify the Mini wherever it’s set up in the house. Just think it through if that Mini is in a kid’s nap room.
If you’ve got questions, drop them in the comments. Like, share, and subscribe if this helped. Aloha. Cheehoo.
FAQ
Eufy vs Blink vs Wyze — which one skips the monthly fee?
Eufy — in my video. Between Eufy and Blink I pick Eufy because I get good quality without a monthly subscription. Wyze isn’t covered on this video; don’t treat the Wyze shop link as a hands-on from this footage.
What’s my real gripe with Blink?
The subscription. After about a 15–30 day trial, you need a paid plan to use all the Blink app features (reviewing clips / full app). I said the features are convenient and fairly affordable — I just don’t like paying a subscription.
If Blink needs a plan, why does anyone still buy it?
Easy setup, easy app, Amazon ecosystem pairing with Echo gear, and I still liked Outdoor 4’s response time, sensitivity, and cool-down. It’s the paid plan that costs Blink the win for me.
Which Blink cam did I like most?
Blink Outdoor 4 — newest battery outdoor in the lineup I tested; up to about two years on AAs. I also ran the Blink doorbell, Minis, and Mini pan/tilt.
Why does Eufy win for me?
Good quality and no monthly subscription. That won me over as an Eufy customer. My favorite Eufy I own right now is a spotlight outdoor cam for detail and deterrence.
Any Eufy caveat in my video?
My solar Eufy cam is power-hungry — battery drains faster without sun and typically wants about four hours of sunlight.
Quick picks from the end of the video?
Doorbell: Eufy. Outdoor battery: Eufy spotlight cam (Blink Outdoor 4 only gets a slight nod if the subscription weren’t a thing). Indoor / kids / pets: Blink Minis.
