What I actually showed

Outdoor unit on a post. Yard / field / dirt path / lawn by the house / wooden porch at night. Daytime walk track. Bush-hug on the dirt path — it caught me. Crawl on the lawn — no problem spotting me. Cat and other creatures on the porch at night. Color night vision with the light on. Night ghosting / color smear still.

Why I went with the S340

At purchase: $130 when original is about $200 per unit.

Two external cameras. Much larger sensor than older models like the S220. Rotating axis / 360° viewing. Four preset positions. Built-in spotlight. Color night vision. Adjustable solar panel for maximum sun exposure.

Tracking technology (both S3 Pro and S340 have it). S340 tracked me walking day and night. Tried to hug the bushes — caught me. Crawled past — no problem. Spotted my cat and other creatures. Crisp outdoor audio day and night.

Night vision and ghosting

The S3 Pro likes to boast about Max color night vision. Max color night vision is not much better than its predecessors. You’re still better off using black and white — better clarity, more consistent lighting, and you’re not worried about ghosting, a pretty bad known issue amongst all Eufy security cameras especially in night mode.

What still bugs me on the S340

This camera goes up to 3K, but only to 2K when you’re using AI tracking mode or the dual lens.

I wish the dual lens would zoom my face on the secondary lens as I walk toward the camera, then zoom out on the main as I get closer. Expectations might be a little too much, but it is 2024 with AI built in.
